Participants at the event agreed that the Mekong Delta has great potential to develop many types of tourism such as ecological, river, and spiritual tourism.

It is reported that in 2023, the total number of visitors to the region reached nearly 45 million, including 1.8 million foreigners, up 20.4% and 200% year on year respectively. Last year’s tourism revenue was estimated at nearly 46 trillion VND, an increase of 42.6% over the same period in 2022.

However, the delegates pointed out that the regional tourism has not yet fully tapped its strengths or potential due to weak coordination between localities in the region as well as with other regions in the country.

They also identified other reasons, such as the fact that each locality in the region has not yet developed their own typical tourism products, the tourism promotion activities have not received due attention, and the limitations in tourism infrastructure.

At the seminar, tourism managers and businesses presented more than 20 in-depth, research-based presentations, analysing difficulties and limitations of the regional tourism, and contributed solutions towards boosting the tourism industry in Mekong Delta’s provinces and cities.

Accordingly, regional localities need to strengthen tourism links with Ho Chi Minh City and regions across the country to attract more visitors.

The local authorities should also work out preferential mechanisms and policies on taxes and land to attract businesses and travel companies as well as remove the obstacles facing air and water transportation, thus contributing to facilitating tourism development.
