Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Hanh highlighted Ha Long Bay’s transformation over the past 30 years. Its global heritage values have been well-preserved, management mechanisms improved, and sustainable strategies developed.
Ha Long Bay has become a leading tourist destination, earning prestigious titles such as a New Natural Wonder of the World and a top Vietnamese tourism site. Since 1996, it has attracted over 57 million visitors and generated over 8.6 trillion VND in revenue.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong praised Quang Ninh’s efforts in heritage preservation and acknowledged UNESCO and international organisations for their continued support. He emphasised the importance of innovation and unity in addressing modern challenges such as climate change, pollution, and tourism pressures to ensure the sustainable conservation of Ha Long Bay.
Chairman of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee Vishal V. Sharma commended Vietnam’s commitment to heritage preservation, calling Ha Long Bay a model for other World Heritage Sites. He expressed hope that the bay will continue to inspire future generations as a symbol of harmony between humanity and nature.
Over three decades, Ha Long Bay has significantly contributed to Quang Ninh’s socio-economic development, especially tourism, boosting provincial revenues, creating jobs, and improving livelihoods while showcasing Vietnam’s natural and cultural wealth to the world.
