SHB Da Nang had home field advantage in Chi Lang Stadium and went ahead with a goal by Huynh Quoc Anh after only three minutes.
Argentine-born striker Gaston Merlo added a second goal in the 66th minute. Quoc Anh struck again in the 70th minute, putting SHB Da Nang up 3-0.
As the match was coming to an end, Danny David scored another goal to clinch the victory over Xuan Thanh Sai Gon Cement.
SHB Da Nang won the Super Cup trophy and a cash prize of VND200 million (US$9,600) while Sai Gon Xuan Thanh Cement received VND100 million (US$4,800).
The Super Cup commenced on the initiative of Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper in 1999 and is included in the national football competition system.
Last year’s holder of the trophy was Song Lam Nghe An, who also won the Super Cup in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
