At a working session to review the City’s socio-economic situation in the first five months this year, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Le Hoang Quan, said that the City has maintained reasonable growth

Total retail and service sales rose by 7.7% compared to the same period last year, while exports were estimated at US$10.73 billion, up 4.3%.

The industrial development index increased by 4.6% year-on-year, inventories were down by 0.26%, and agro-forestry-fisheries production saw an increase of 6.7%.

The City also welcomed 286,200 international visitors from January to May, an increase of 6%.

Mr. Quan urged authorities in departments, districts and sectors to strengthen their orientation to boost socio-economic tasks in June and during the remaining months of 2013, in addition to actively implementing solutions to address difficulties for business in developing production, accessing loans and settling bad debts.

The City needs to focus on balancing its budget revenues and tightening the management of expenses, in addition to increasing budget supplements. It should also develop measures to expand its markets; promote exports, trade and investment; and strengthen the ‘Vietnamese Give Priority to Using Vietnamese Products’ campaign.

Ho Chi Minh Cityaims to deploy four programmes to stabilise prices, reduce inventories, bring high quality Vietnamese goods to remote and disadvantaged areas, and stimulate consumption in rural markets. It will also strengthen inspections and supervision to speed up construction on large-scale key infrastructure projects.
