The passengers included children under 18, the elderly, sick people, stranded tourists, students without accommodations due to dormitory closures, and others extremely difficult cases.

Vietnam’s representative offices in the US offered active support for the citizens, many of whom had to travel from places far from the airport, and some needed special assistance.

Also, on August 5, more than 220 Vietnamese citizens were safely repatriated from Japan on a flight of budget carrier Vietjet Air. The flight was arranged by Vietnamese authorities, the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan and the airline, together with Japanese relevant agencies.

The passengers included children under 18, the elderly, pregnant women, the ill, workers with expired labour contracts, students without accommodations, and those in extremely disadvantaged circumstances.

Both the Vietnamese Consulate General in Houston and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan sent their staff members to help the citizens with boarding procedures at the airports.

To ensure health of the citizens and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air strictly implemented security, safety, sanitary and epidemiological measures during the flights.

Right upon landing at airports in Vietnam, all crew members and passengers on the two flights were placed under medical monitoring and concentrated quarantine as regulated.

In the near future, Vietnamese authorities and overseas missions plan to arrange more flights to take more Vietnamese citizens home, depending on citizens’ needs and the quarantine capacity at home.
