General Secretary of the CPV To Lam and the high-ranking delegation of Viet Nam successfully concluded their State visit to the DPRK and attended the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), at the invitation of General Secretary of the WPK and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong Un.
During General Secretary To Lam’s State visit to the DPRK from October 9-11, the DPRK leaders and people gave the General Secretary and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation a warm and respectful welcome, clearly demonstrating the time-honoured friendship and extensive cooperation between the two Parties and the two countries.
General Secretary To Lam had a successful high-level meeting with General Secretary of the WPK and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong Un; attended the military parade and a solemn reception to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the WPK; paid floral tributes to the DPRK leaders, and visited a number of cultural and historical establishments.
The General Secretary and the delegation attended the inauguration ceremony of the Ho Chi Minh Monument, visited the Vietnamese Embassy in the DPRK and met with leaders and heads of delegrations from various countries attending the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the WPK. Throughout the visit, from October 9–11, the DPRK’s leaders and people once again demonstrated their high respect and warm affection for General Secretary To Lam and the Vietnamese delegation, vividly illustrating the enduring traditional friendship and expanding cooperation between the two Parties and countries.
The year 2025 has been designated as the “Viet Nam–DPRK Friendship Year”, marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (January 31, 1950 – January 31, 2025), which coincides with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the WPK (October 10, 1945 – 2025).

Marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations, General Secretary To Lam’s visit reaffirmed Viet Nam’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralisation of external relations, proactive and active international integration that is comprehensive, extensive and effective. It also underscored Viet Nam’s commitment to strengthening ties with traditional friends, including the DPRK; reaffirmed Viet Nam’s high regard for the traditional friendship between the two countries; and expressed the desire to enhance cooperation between the two Parties and States, support the DPRK’s development, and contribute to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
During their talks, held in a sincere, friendly, and open atmosphere, General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary of the WPK and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong Un recalled and expressed their deep appreciation for the traditional friendship between the two Parties and the two countries—founded personally by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kim Il Sung, and cultivated and strengthened by successive generations of leaders. They also reminisced about the long-standing tradition of wholehearted mutual support and assistance between the two nations during the difficult years of revolutionary struggle.
Highlighting the outstanding achievements of the DPRK over the past 80 years under the leadership of the WPK, Party General Secretary To Lam expressed his belief that, with the motto of “taking the people as the root”, “united mind” and “self-reliance”, the DPRK would successfully complete the tasks and goals set by the WPK, opening a new era of comprehensive national rejuvenation.
President of the State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong Un emphasised that during the Vietnamese people’s struggle for national liberation, the DPRK people regarded it as their own fight and offered wholehearted and selfless support to Viet Nam. He also affirmed that the DPRK remains deeply grateful for and remembers the valuable assistance that the Party, State, and people of Viet Nam extended to the DPRK during its cause of national construction and defence.
Congratulating Viet Nam on its tremendous achievements over the past 80 years, General Secretary of the WPK and President of the State Affairs Kim Jong Un expressed his confidence that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, headed by General Secretary To Lam, Viet Nam will successfully realise its development goals, organise the 14th National Party Congress successfully, and continue to achieve even greater accomplishments in building a prosperous socialist nation.
The two leaders agreed on strategic orientations to inherit and further promote the traditional friendship between the two Parties and the two countries, thereby advancing the Viet Nam–DPRK relationship into a new stage of practical and effective development. These efforts contribute to realising each country’s development goals, meeting the aspirations of both peoples, and promoting peace, stability, and progress in the region and the world.
Marking a new milestone in the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations, the State visit to the DPRK and attendance at the 80th anniversary of the founding of the WPK by Party General Secretary To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation concluded successfully. The visit made an important contribution to deepening mutual understanding, strengthening political trust, and energising the relationship between the two Parties and countries, elevating it to new heights.
