The US has pledged an emergency assistance package worth 500,000 USD to support Viet Nam in dealing with the devastation caused by Typhoon Fengshen and Typhoon Kalmaegi.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on November 13 inspected the situation and directed recovery efforts in the central province of Gia Lai following the severe impact of Typhoon Kalmaegi, which caused significant damage to housing, infrastructure, production, and livelihoods, particularly in coastal areas.
Typhoon Kalmaegi has killed six people and injured another 26 in Viet Nam, while also causing extensive damage to infrastructure, houses and crops in central provinces, according to the national disaster management agency.
As of 8:00 on November 8, Typhoon Kalmaegi and its circulation had pulled down 245 houses and damaged or unroofed 26,226 others, an increase of 8,664 compared to the previous day, according to the Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh, accompanied by leaders of Dak Lak province, visited Xuan Canh commune to encourage and present gifts to residents affected by Typhoon Kalmaegi.
The initial estimated damage caused by Typhoon Kalmaegi, the 13th storm entering the East Sea/South China Sea this year, had amounted to 7.05 trillion VND (268 million USD) as of 17:00 on November 7, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment’s Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority.
Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc has freshly signed a decision approving an emergency allocation of 80 billion VND (3.04 million USD) to the central provinces of Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, and Dak Lak to help them overcome the consequences of Typhoon Kalmaegi, the 13th storm entering the East Sea/South China Sea so far this year.

Typhoon Kalmaegi, the 13th storm in the East Sea/South China Sea this year, has maintained its direction and intensity but is moving faster, with its centre located approximately 310 km east-southeast of Quy Nhon (Gia Lai province), according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF).
Under the influence of Typhoon Kalmaegi – the 13th storm in the East Sea/ South China Sea this year, extremely heavy rain is forecast for areas from Da Nang city to Dak Lak province in the central region on November 6 and 7, with rainfall expected to reach 200 – 400mm, and in some places over 600mm.
Typhoon Kalmaegi is sustaining strong winds and heading towards the central region of Viet Nam, the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) said, warning water levels rise by 0.3 to 0.6 metres for coastal areas from Hue city to Dak Lak province.
As Typhoon Kalmaegi is expected to enter the East Sea on the morning of November 5, with sustained winds of level 13–14 and gusts reaching level 17, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered ministries, sectors, and local authorities to implement the highest-level response measures to protect lives and minimise damage.
