Tien Minh, who is currently ranked 12th in the world, easily beat world no.89 Kaveh Mehrabi in two straight sets (21/8, 21/4), after just 26 minutes to make it through to the next round.
Minh will take on world no.79, Kwong Beng Chan from Malaysia today, to compete for a place in the quarter-finals. The Malaysian shuttler was beaten 1-2 by Tien Minh at the 2009 Vietnam Challenge.
In the men’s doubles category, Vietnamese pair Bui Bang Duc and Dao Manh Thang bowed out of the tournament after losing 0-2 (16/21, 17/21) to their Thai opponents Patipat Chalardchaleam and Nipitphon Puangpuapech on Wednesday.
