Typhoon Yagi kills 22 and injures 199

Typhoon Yagi killed 22 people, injured 199 and rendered 32 missing across nine provinces and cities in northern Vietnam, according to the national disaster management agency as of 6pm on September 8.

Among the dead, 5 were in Lao Cai, 4 in Hoa Binh, 3 each in Quang Ninh and Hanoi, 2 each in Lang Son and Hai Phong, and 1 each in Yen Bai, Hai Duong and the third military region.

Quang Ninh reported the largest number of missing people, at 28, while Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai and Son La each had one missing.

Quang Ninh also reported the largest number of injuries, at 157 people, followed by Hai Phong and Hanoi, with 18 and 8 respectively. Typhoon-caused injuries were also recorded in Hai Duong, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Phu Tho and Hoa Binh.

Typhoon Yagi also damaged 4,350 houses, two schools, 32 substations, and over 52,300 hectares of rice and other crops, and it knocked down over 24,300 trees and 416 electricity poles.

In Quang Ninh Province, 18 ships were sunk, 17 were drifted, one ran aground, and two lost contact due to Typhoon Yagi.
