The present current hospital in the district was built 20 years ago and was part of the former Ba Vi Health Centre.
The hospital currently covers 1.7 hectares and accommodates only 200 beds, however, there have been no major renovations over the years to meet the increasing demand for healthcare.
The new project, to be implemented in two phases, will upgrade the facility to a second level general hospital according to Health Ministry specifications, and expand its total area to about 4.28 hectares.
The first phase is scheduled to be completed in 2015 and will increase the hospital’s capacity to 400 beds on an area of 2.5 hectares, including eight floors for treating inpatients. The second phase will include the construction of a five storey building for outpatient treatment and technical training.
According to the head of the Hanoi Health Department, Nguyen Khac Hien, the project is part of continuing efforts to reduce hospital overload nationwide. The department has also asked the hospital to begin planning for hiring and training healthcare staff to meet the demand when the new hospital is put into operation.
