The statement was made at a conference co-hosted in Beijing by the Vietnamese Embassy in China and China’s research centre on fresh agricultural products on August 5.
Vietnamese commerce counsellor Nong Duc Lai noted that similarities in soil, climate, culture, and cuisine form a strong basis for promoting trade between Viet Nam and China, particularly in agricultural products.
Lai emphasised that China’s proximity and population of 1.4 billion make it a promising market for Vietnamese products, especially high-quality fruits.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Viet Nam’s fruit and vegetable exports to China reached 4.63 billion USD in 2024, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the country’s total fruit and vegetable exports.
Viet Nam currently exports 12 types of fruit to China, including mango, dragon fruit, banana, longan, lychee, watermelon, rambutan, jackfruit, mangosteen, durian, passionfruit, and coconut.
In recent years, Viet Nam has effectively tapped into the Chinese market, with export volumes and values rising steadily, and more products entering the premium market segments.
However, Chinese importers and consumers remain unfamiliar with Vietnamese agricultural products due to limited exposure.
Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen promotional activities and organise trade events with local distributors.
At the conference, Chinese businesses shared insights into local consumer preferences and expressed hope for new mechanisms to strengthen cooperation between the two sides.
They also proposed the establishment of information channels and advertising efforts to boost Chinese importers’ awareness of Vietnamese tropical fruits.
