Minister Nguyen Hong Dien said Vietnam would continue to closely cooperate with Japan in the implementation of the CPTPP.

The Vietnamese minister highly lauded Japan's efforts and thoughtful preparation, and said that Vietnam will continue to actively coordinate with Japan and CPTPP members to successfully organise the CPTPP Commission meeting.

He also suggested Minister Nishimura encourage and create favourable conditions for Japanese investors who wish to invest in Vietnam.

He said the move will help Vietnam become an important link in the supply chain of Japanese enterprises, particularly in the fields of automobile manufacturing, electronics, medical equipment, garment and textiles, and other sectors that bring benefits to bilateral economic-trade ties.

In addition, the two ministers also spent time discussing the implementation of the CPTPP. Accordingly, Minister Nishimura proposed that Vietnam support Japan’s initiatives, and continue to work with Japan to implement the trade pact. At the same time, he expressed his wish that the two sides continue to cooperate closely to effectively implement the CPTPP.

As several countries, including the UK, have expressed an interest in joining the agreement, the Japanese minister hoped Vietnam would endorse the organisation of the fourth CPTPP Commission meeting in early June, which will consider negotiating with the UK after its formal request to join on February 1, 2021.
