Over the past 35 years of its development (1978-2012), the VPI has become a leading scientific and technological organisation in the Vietnamese petroleum sector.

Research conducted by VPI provided the scientific basis for the Government and the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group to work out realistic and feasible policies and development strategies.

In the 2001 - 2011 period, the VPI carried out more than 700 scientific projects to build an accurate and reliable data base on the oil and gas reserves in Vietnam’s sea and continental shelf, which has significantly contributed to exploration and potential exploitation.

Vice President Doan praised the VPI’s achievements and asked it to align its scientific research with technological applications and training human resources.
