Building on the success of the inaugural National Buddhist Press Awards held in 2024, the 2025 edition continued to affirm the role of the press in reflecting Buddhist life and connecting traditional moral values and religious ethics with contemporary social issues. The event also carried special significance as part of the activities marking the 101st anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925–June 21, 2026) and celebrating the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha (1981–2026).

Addressing the ceremony, Most Venerable Thich Gia Quang, Vice Chairman of the Executive Council and Head of the Central Information and Communications Committee of the Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha, said that this year’s competition recorded progress in both the quantity and quality of entries. Many articles and reports submitted by individual authors and author groups demonstrated serious investment in implementation and topic selection, helping to spread Buddhism’s humanistic values throughout society.

Over the one-year period since the competition was launched in June 2025, the organising committee received an impressive 948 entries across print newspapers, online newspapers, radio, television, and photojournalism. Of the total, 669 entries were submitted in the print and online press category, 135 in radio and television, and 144 in photojournalism.

At the ceremony, the organising committee presented 36 prizes to 36 winning works in the categories of print and online press, radio and television, and photojournalism.

The 2025 Buddhist Press Awards saw participation from author groups of Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper, whose entries received high praise from experts. Vinh Nghiem Pagoda – The Ancestral Seat of Truc Lam Buddhism, produced by Tran Thanh Hai, Thanh Giang, Viet Hung, and Ngoc Anh from the newspaper’s Photo Department, won a third prize in the photojournalism category.

Meanwhile, Tracing the Buddha’s Footsteps in Quang Land, a two-part series by Phan Hai Tung Lam and Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan from Nhan Dan newspaper’s Central Highlands and Central Region representative office, received a consolation prize in the print and online press category.

The competition entries demonstrated that the press is not only fulfilling its role of providing information but also shows that journalism covering Buddhism is gradually developing a distinct and more specialised identity.
