The event is organised by the Global Vietnam-Japan Cultural Promotion Organisation (VJCP) in collaboration with Vietnamese community associations in Japan.
Notably, the “Ten thousand national flags flying” campaign, launched by the event organisers, has been generating immense excitement and national pride among Vietnamese expatriates, students, and workers in Japan, as well as international friends.
According to Do Hai Khoi, President of VJCP, the idea for the Vietnamese Heart Festival was conceived in late 2024 with the aim to create a meaningful and proud occasion for the Vietnamese community in Japan and overseas, marking 50 years since the reunification of Vietnam. The event has received strong support and sponsorship from the Higashiosaka City Government and Osaka Prefecture, Japan.
Explaining why the festival is scheduled for early May instead of April 30, Do Hai Khoi, Head of the organising board, stated: “Early May coincides with Japan’s Golden Week holiday, one of the country’s longest breaks, allowing many Vietnamese workers to attend. We hope this will be an opportunity for overseas Vietnamese, especially young people, to express their patriotism, remember the sacrifices of past generations, and foster a deeper sense of responsibility in building and protecting the homeland.”
Director Huy Lio, the festival’s Chief Producer and General Director, revealed that two renowned Vietnamese artists (representing the North and South) will perform at the event, along with young artists, Vietnamese art groups, and international cultural organisations in Japan.
A major highlight of the festival is the “Ten thousand national flags flying” campaign. The organisers have transported 10,000 Vietnamese national flags to Japan since March, distributing them for free to attendees to wave in unison with patriotic songs performed on stage.
He also expressed his hope that the sight of ten thousand Vietnamese flags flying over Hanazono Park’s baseball field, which is 1.5 times larger than My Dinh National Stadium, will evoke profound patriotism and national pride among Vietnamese expatriates.
