The competition was organised under the direction of the Standing Board of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defence, and the General Department of Politics of the Viet Nam People’s Army, with the aim of promoting the role of the press in communications and in countering hostile and erroneous viewpoints, while defending Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh Thought, and the Party’s policies and guidelines.
The ceremony was attended by Politburo members General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of National Defence; General Trinh Van Quyet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of the committee's Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation; General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Central Military Commission's Standing Board, and Director of the General Department of Politics of the Viet Nam People’s Army; and Associate Professor Dr Doan Minh Huan, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, along with several members of the Party Central Committee.
The event featured the participation of by representatives from central ministries, agencies, and Ha Noi authorities; leaders and commanders from agencies and units under the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence; representatives of organising bodies; award-winning authors and author groups; members of the preliminary and final judging panels; and a large number of participants from both inside and outside the military.
Addressing the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Truong Thien To, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Viet Nam People’s Army, affirmed that in its five editions, the competition has increasingly established its prestige and influence within the national press landscape, becoming an important political forum in the struggle to protect the Party’s ideological foundation and strengthen the confidence of officials, Party members, and the public in the Party’s leadership.
Senior Lieutenant General Truong Thien To stressed that, amid increasingly intensified sabotage activities by hostile forces in cyberspace, military press agencies must continue to renew content and improve the quality of political commentary works; proactively guide public opinion; combat false and hostile viewpoints; and spread correct, humane, and revolutionary values throughout society.
The fifth competition attracted 651 entries from 72 press agencies, an increase of 110 works and 21 press agencies compared with the previous edition. Following the preliminary and final judging rounds, the organising committee presented 31 prizes, including three first prizes, six second prizes, nine third prizes, and 13 consolation prizes to outstanding authors and author groups in three categories: central newspapers, local newspapers, and magazines. Certificates of merit from the Director of the General Department of Politics were also awarded to nine collectives for their significant contributions to the competition over the past five years.
Launching the sixth “Protecting the Party’s ideological foundation in the new situation” writing competition (2026–2027), Major General Doan Xuan Bo, Editor-in-Chief of People’s Army Newspaper and Head of the Organising Committee, said the contest would continue to be open to Vietnamese citizens, overseas Vietnamese, and foreigners studying or working in Viet Nam whose journalistic works meet the competition regulations.
Entries are expected to focus on protecting the Party’s ideological foundation; defending Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought; countering false and hostile viewpoints; and spreading positive values that contribute to building a clean and strong Party and political system.
