Youth power harnessed to implement Resolution of 14th National Party Congress

Expressing his firm belief that the era of the Vietnamese nation’s rise will begin with the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, Nguyen Hong Phuc, a doctoral researcher at Zhejiang University and Deputy Secretary of the Viet Nam Overseas Students’ Party Cell in Shanghai, China, hopes that the Congress’s decisions will soon be translated into reality, creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese intellectuals abroad to continue contributing to the country’s development.

In an interview with a correspondent of Nhan Dan Newspaper based in China, Nguyen Hong Phuc — who is also Deputy Chairman of the Viet Nam Overseas Students’ Association in Zhejiang and a member of the Youth Union Executive Committee in China — stressed that the 14th National Party Congress is a momentous political event for the entire Party, people, and armed forces, holding particularly important significance in the country’s development process.

The Congress is tasked with reviewing the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, alongside assessing achievements and affirming accomplishments of the past term, 40 years of renewal, and 35 years of implementing the 1991 platform on national construction during the transition to socialism. From this review, lessons and experiences will be drawn, while orientations and tasks for socio-economic development over the next five years will be defined, together with goals, directions, and a development vision for the country towards the middle of the 21st century.

Notably, the Congress will elect the 14th-tenure Central Committee, comprising truly exemplary individuals in political integrity, revolutionary ethics, leadership capacity, courage, and intellect — capable of meeting the requirements of rapid and sustainable national development and firmly safeguarding the Fatherland while charting Viet Nam’s development path amid major global security and economic fluctuations.

Nguyen Hong Phuc emphasised that Viet Nam has accumulated comprehensive national strength from previous stages, particularly throughout the renewal process. Combined with the experiences of countries that successfully achieved industrialisation and became developed nations within just two to three decades, and harnessing the tremendous spiritual strength of more than 100 million Vietnamese people determined to build a more dignified and prosperous country in the new era, these factors have created a solid foundation. The epoch-making achievements of the era of independence and freedom, together with the great and historically significant accomplishments of the era of renewal and development, have laid firm groundwork for Viet Nam to enter a phase of rapid development and transform into a developed country.

Sharing his expectations regarding the policies to be discussed and adopted at this Congress, Nguyen Hong Phuc noted that the 14th National Party Congress will approve contents directly related to youth, Vietnamese intellectuals abroad, as well as the development of science and technology and education. This, he said, demonstrates that the Party and the state consistently regard young people and overseas Vietnamese intellectuals as an inseparable part of the nation, while underscoring the importance attached to talent development both at home and abroad. It also reflects a strong commitment to unlocking the role and potential of overseas Vietnamese — especially young people and intellectuals who possess both talent and a sense of mission in national construction and development.

From the perspective of an overseas student and a young Party member abroad, Nguyen Hong Phuc expressed his hope that the decisions of the 14th National Party Congress will soon be brought into life and implemented in a comprehensive and effective manner. This would enable Vietnamese intellectual youths overseas, including those in China in particular, to make practical contributions while enhancing their role as bridges in external relations between Vietnamese youth and intellectuals and their counterparts and peoples around the world.

He also expressed his wish that the Party and the state will continue to pay attention to and create favourable conditions for overseas students and the Vietnamese community in China to play their role as an important force in Viet Nam–China people-to-people diplomacy — serving as a vital connecting resource and as cultural ambassadors promoting the image of Viet Nam and its people, fostering human connections and people-to-people exchanges, and helping to build a solid foundation for the friendship between the two countries.
