The ministers lauded developments in implementing cultural and art projects in a master plan on building the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, enhanced linkages among peoples in the framework of a master plan on ASEAN connectivity, and outcomes of common activities related to cultural expressions which reflect a unified ASEAN community in cultural diversity.
They agreed that the outcomes are important in building the ASEAN community, particularly success in ‘The ASEAN Cultural City’ and ‘The ASEAN Art Performance Festival’ projects.
They also applauded the participation of dialogue countries in initiatives on promoting the tradition and connecting ASEAN member countries’ culture to boost mutual understanding.
The ministers agreed on suggestions in an interim report on implementing the master plan on building the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, recommendations to ASEAN leaders about the ASEAN Community’s development in a vision beyond 2015, as well as furthering cultural and art co-operation to ensure its connectivity with joint efforts in boosting sustainable development.
Supporting ASEAN Community construction by 2015, they agreed to elevate the role of culture as a pillar for sustainable development via ‘the Hue Statement on the Role of Culture in ASEAN Community’s Sustainable Development’.
The seventh meeting is scheduled to take place in Brunei in 2016.
