Nghia, also head of the Central Commission for Communication, Education and Mass Mobilisation, made the request during a meeting with provincial leaders on July 22.
He noted that the APEC Summit is a high-level diplomatic event of particular significance not only to An Giang Province but also to the broader Mekong Delta region and Viet Nam.
Therefore, the province needs to give special focus to preparations, ensuring timely progress and high-quality infrastructure, along with absolute security in all aspects for the summit, said Nghia.
The Party official stressed that An Giang Province should make the success of the APEC Summit a driver for the province’s comprehensive development, helping to enhance Viet Nam’s international position in the era of deepening integration and global competition.
Also, at the meeting with provincial leaders, Nghia urged them to implement the two-tier local government model effectively, with the consistent goal of better serving the people and businesses.
The new An Giang Province, formed by merging the former An Giang and Kien Giang Provinces, has a total area of 9,888 square kilometres and a population of 5 million.
