Prime Minister Le Minh Hung pays tribute at K15 Wharf Special National Relic Site

In a solemn and deeply moving atmosphere, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and the delegates respectfully offered flowers and incense and observed a moment of silence to honour and pay tribute to the heroic martyrs — officers and soldiers of the Viet Nam People's Navy who fought and sacrificed their lives for the cause of national liberation, as well as for the construction and defence of the Fatherland.

The Prime Minister and delegates pledged absolute loyalty to the goals and ideals of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and vowed to forever follow the path chosen by the Party, Uncle Ho, and the people. They expressed their determination to join forces in building the nation as it enters a new era — an era of national rise — striving for a wealthy, civilised, and prosperous nation, with its people enjoying greater happiness and well-being, and to honour the great sacrifices and contributions of past generations.

K15 Wharf is located in Set Bay, at the foot of Van Hoa Hill on the Do Son tourist peninsula in Hai Phong. The name K15 Wharf was a military code for the port, with the number derived from Resolution No. 15 of the Party Central Committee in 1959 on the revolutionary line and methods for southern Viet Nam. The relic site was therefore selected as a departure point for the “no-number ships” tasked with transporting weapons and equipment to support the southern battlefield.

On each ship departing from K15 Wharf, officers and soldiers remained undaunted in the face of hardship and imminent danger. With the spirit of “everything for the frontline” and “everything for the South to defeat the US invaders,” the ships continued to sail quietly into the sea. From 1962 to 1972, hundreds of voyages departed from the site, transporting thousands of tonnes of weapons and equipment as well as hundreds of officers and soldiers to support the battlefield, contributing to the liberation of the South and national reunification.

To commemorate this historic site, a monument honouring the resounding victories and contributions of the heroic martyrs who devoted their lives to the Fatherland was built on the former K15 Wharf shoreline. Under the sea, the foundation pillars of the old pier remain, continuing to evoke the epic tale of the naval soldiers’ exploits. In 2008, K15 Wharf was recognised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism as a national historical relic site. In 2024, it was further recognised as a Special National Relic Site as part of the historical complex of the Ho Chi Minh Trail at Sea. The site has become a regular destination for visitors from near and far, as well as those wishing to learn about a glorious heroic period in the nation's history.

After years of exposure to storms, the passage of time, and the harsh marine environment, the K15 Wharf relic site has deteriorated. In response, Hai Phong City has launched a project to invest in, repair, and embellish the K15 Wharf relic complex over an area of 2.28 hectares, with total investment of nearly 235 billion VND, to be implemented during the 2021–2026 period.

The project includes a number of key components, such as a temple dedicated to heroic martyrs; a pier combined with a floating-lantern release area; a replica of a “No-number ship” and soldiers; a relief depicting General Vo Nguyen Giap with naval forces; a memorial monument, stake field, square, entrance gate to the relic site, and supporting infrastructure and landscaping.

The project aims to preserve, embellish, and promote the value of the K15 No-number Ship Wharf Special National Historical Relic Site; build a comprehensive architectural and landscape scheme to pay tribute to heroic martyrs and create a venue for political, cultural, and tourism activities for the city and the country; contribute to educating younger generations about revolutionary traditions, patriotism, and national pride; and promote local socio-economic development.
