April 30 victory anniversary celebrated in Thailand's province

Consulate General of Vietnam in Khon Kaen Province, Thailand held a ceremony on April 25 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – 2025).

The event was attended by officials and staff of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Khon Kaen, representatives of Vietnamese associations from provinces across Northeast Thailand, and around 200 Vietnamese expatriates in the region.

In his opening speech, Consul General Dinh Hoang Linh stated that 50 years ago, on April 30, 1975, a glorious milestone was etched into the history of Vietnam when the revolutionary flag flew atop the Independence Palace, marking the victorious conclusion of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign and the liberation of the South, leading to national reunification.

The great victory of the 1975 Spring Offensive, culminating in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, was a proud triumph of the entire Vietnamese nation under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the great President Ho Chi Minh. It was an extraordinary feat achieved through the dedication and sacrifice of the people across the country and countless heroic martyrs who gave their lives for the nation's independence and survival.

Consul General Linh emphasised that half a century has passed since April 30, 1975. From a country devastated by war, Vietnam has risen with strength and determination, steadily asserting its position on the international stage.

Vietnam has overcome numerous challenges during the renewal process and is now entering a new era—an era of national rise marked by prosperity and resilience.

The Consul General expressed gratitude for the valuable, persistent, and heartfelt contributions of overseas Vietnamese communities to the homeland, including the significant support from the Vietnamese in Khon Kaen Province and across Northeast Thailand. He affirmed that, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, both Vietnamese people and expatriates in Northeast Thailand deeply remember President Ho Chi Minh and turn their hearts toward the motherland.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairwoman of the Thai-Vietnamese Association in Khon Kaen Dang Thi Gai, shared: "In the sacred atmosphere of April 30, 1975—the day of liberation and reunification—I feel deeply moved. Though many years have passed, every time this day comes around, I tell my children and grandchildren about the heroic days of our people, when the entire nation shared a common determination and aspiration for peace and reunification”.

The victory of April 30, 1975 was not only a military triumph but also a testament to the Vietnamese people's patriotism and unyielding unity, she added.

Cao Tat Minh, former Chairman of the Thai-Vietnamese Association in Khon Kaen, affirmed that on this special occasion marking 50 years of liberation and reunification, people always remember President Ho Chi Minh, who devoted his life to the nation and its people. President Ho Chi Minh brought pride to the Vietnamese people and to the country of Vietnam.

At the ceremony, participants enjoyed a repertoire of revolutionary and patriotic songs dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh and to the homeland of Vietnam, including “Giai phong mien nam” (Liberation of the South), “Bac Ho mot tinh yeu bao la” (Uncle Ho – A Boundless Love”, and “Ha Noi niem tin va hy vong” (Hanoi – Trust and Hope), performed by expatriates and staff from the Consulate General of Vietnam in Khon Kaen.

The powerful and moving melodies of these revolutionary songs transported attendees back to the heroic era when the entire nation stood united to achieve the historic victory of April 30, 1975.
