The event was jointly held by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Office, in Hanoi.

The lotus flower has become a symbol of the soul and character of the Vietnamese nation, through thousands of years of history. In Buddhism, the lotus flower is a symbol of spiritual enlightenment, expressing the Buddha nature inherent in every human being.

In the preface to an anthology of lotus paintings by artist Kim Duc, Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Council writes: “Mentioning lotus is to refer to human efforts and progress, to create happiness for themselves and others.”

Director of UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Lazarre Eloundou said that, the exhibition honours artistic creativity and nurtures the soul.

The exhibition is open to visitors free of charge until March 31.
