The conference, under the theme of “Oral Health for School Children: New Challenges and New Solutions”, is the first international dentistry conference to be held in Vietnam.

At the three-day conference, experts presented over 120 research papers on oral health for school children and also visited two schools in Gia Loc district, Hai Duong province that have established good oral health care facilities for their pupils.

Speaking at the conference, Vietnamese Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said oral health for school children is one of Vietnam’s priority health policies.

The program in Vietnam has gained many achievements over the years and nearly 10 million pupils nationwide have benefited from it. However, only 30% of urban and rural districts across the country currently have professional dental care facilities.

The conference will conclude with the ‘Hanoi Declaration’ for regular exchanges of information in order to improve the oral health of school children.
