Calligraphy festival preserves ancient beauty of Tet

This year, the Temple of Literature hosted the 2018 Spring Calligraphy Festival in Van Pond campus with the participation of 63 calligraphers.

The festival honours the tradition of "respecting moral, venerating teacher”, encouraging the younger generations to show their responsibility and gratitude to their predecessors.
During the new year festivities, Vietnamese will be bringing home calligraphy containing words on red paper describing their wishes, hoping that they might come true.

Elderly scholars use brushes to paint beautiful black strokes on red paper to convey people’s wishes.

Red parallel sentences are usually hung during Tet to celebrate spring.

It is a decade-long Vietnamese fine tradition during Tet.

In addition to the familiar image of senior scholars, this year's festival also sees the appearance of a young calligrapher in traditional long dresses for men.

Calligraphy attracts the attention of people of all ages.

Van Pond is decorated with traditional scenes of the old northern delta.

Calligraphy works on display at the festival.

Folk paintings from Hang Trong, Dong Ho and Kim Hoang genres also on display with a typical five-fruit tray during Tet.

The festival also features an area for handicrafts and traditional agricultural products for Tet.

The 2018 Spring Calligraphy Festival will last until February 25.
