The event was jointly organised by the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Quang Ngai Province and the People’s Committee of Tra Bong District.

Tra Bong is renowned not only for its rich revolutionary traditions but also for its distinctive cultural features. Among these, the Neu pole decoration art of the Co ethnic people has existed and developed in tandem with the buffalo-stabbing festival for thousands of years.

This art form has been passed down through generations, reflecting the unique cultural identity and profound imprint of the Co community in Tra Bong District.

The Neu pole of the Co ethnic people is a unique decorative feature which acts as a quintessential example of folk visual art in the vast Truong Son and Central Highlands regions. The combination of intricate patterns and designs on the Neu pole is not merely an aesthetic creation for entertainment and appreciation, it also embodies the community’s aspirations and prayers to the deities for a better life.

According to Vo Van Diep, Head of the Office of Culture, Science, and Information of Tra Bong District, the Neu pole decoration art of the Co ethnic group has evolved alongside the community’s history. It is deeply intertwined with their spiritual life, customs, festivals, and recreational activities, and has been cherished and transmitted through generations.

Recognising its values and significance, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism issued Decision No. 2323/QD-BVHTTDL on August 9, 2024, announcing the inclusion of the “Neu pole decoration art of the Co ethnic people” in Tra Bong District, into the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list under the category of folk knowledge.
