To date, the bridge is 97% complete and is now in the final stage, said the project owner, adding that nearly 600 workers and engineers are working day and night to ensure the project is completed by the end of August and opened to traffic in September.
Speaking during his inspection tour, Minister Minh commended the project owner and construction contractors for their sense of responsibility.
He stated that with the design and construction being undertaken by Vietnamese engineers, the cost of the cable-stayed bridge was halved compared to hiring foreign contractors.
Once completed, the project will become a key route in the eastern part of the Mekong Delta, reducing the pressure on the current Rach Mieu Bridge and boosting local socio-economic development.
The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project, which costs 6.81 trillion VND (260.8 million USD), features four lanes and has a total length of 17.6 kilometres, including the 1,900-metre-long main bridge.
