The delegation is visiting Viet Nam to attend the 10th Theory Dialogue between the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) and the SPD.
Welcoming the German delegation, Thang affirmed that the CPV attaches great importance to theoretical and policy exchanges with influential political parties around the world, including the SPD.
He stressed that the theme and content of this year’s dialogue are of particular relevance as the CPV prepares documents for its 14th National Congress. The discussions, he noted, would help shed light on global political, security and civilisational transformations, thereby contributing to the identification of strategic priorities and enabling Viet Nam to seize opportunities and overcome challenges in its current development phase.
Thang briefed the delegation on Viet Nam’s recent socio-economic development, highlighting major orientations and strategic decisions adopted by the Party and the State to achieve the two centenary goals – marking 100 years of the Party’s founding and 100 years of the nation’s establishment. He reiterated Viet Nam’s determination to achieve 8% growth in 2025 and aim for double-digit growth between 2026 and 2030, with a focus on science and technology, digital and energy transitions, and a people-centred approach to development.
He reaffirmed that Viet Nam consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development, with multilateralisation and diversification of external relations, acting as a friend and trustworthy, responsible partner in the international community. The official expressed confidence that the 10th Dialogue would help deepen the relationship between the two parties and further advance the Viet Nam–Germany Strategic Partnership in a more comprehensive, substantive and effective manner.
Post commended Viet Nam’s achievements in reform, socio-economic growth and international integration. He said the SPD values its theoretical cooperation with the CPV, regarding it as an important dialogue mechanism for sharing experiences in policymaking, sustainable development, social justice and responses to global challenges, thereby fostering stronger bilateral relations.
The same day, the 10th Theory Dialogue between the CPV and SPD took place in Hanoi, co-chaired by Thang and Post, focusing on the perspectives of the two Parties on the global political landscape, the world economic order and human civilisation in the new context.
During the dialogue, participants exchanged views on shifts in the global order, non-traditional security challenges, trade conflicts, and the evolving world economic system, as well as the role of political parties amid global transformation. Both sides agreed that, in a world of intertwined risks and opportunities, international cooperation, political dialogue and theoretical exchange remain vital to promoting peace, stability and sustainable development. They shared the view that this dialogue marks a new step forward in the cooperation between the SPD and the CPV, enhancing political trust and deepening the Viet Nam–Germany Strategic Partnership.
During their stay in Viet Nam, the SPD delegation paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum in Ha Noi, visited the Presidential Palace relic site, met with National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and held discussions with several ministries and agencies to learn about Viet Nam’s policies on energy transition, sustainable development and innovation. Earlier, the delegation visited Ho Chi Minh City, where they met with municipal leaders and engaged in several meaningful local activities.
