He made the remark at an online conference held on September 9 on the implementation of the OCOP programme and the Rural Tourism programme during the building of new-style rural areas in the 2021-2025 period.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, after more than four years of implementation, the OCOP programme has created a spillover effect and been carried outwidely by all localities, becoming a priority solution in rural economic development associated with the building of new-style rural areas.
As of the end of August, all 63 provinces and cities have assessed and classified OCOP products. The whole country has 8,478 OCOP products meeting 3-star standards or more, of which 65.4% are 3-star products, 33.4% are 4-star products, 1% are potential 5-star products and 0.2% are 5-star products.
In particular, through the OCOP programme, many localities have actively developed rural tourism products, services and attractions.
Localities have recognised 65 OCOP products belonging to community-based tourism services and tourist attractions and localities have promoted their advantages in terms of natural conditions, agricultural production, culture, and traditional craft villages to form unique rural tourist attractions.
Minister Hoan emphasised that the development of OCOP products must create livelihoods for local people and the selling of OCOP products should show buyers the local values and culture. In addition, tourism development is not only for economic benefits but also for national pride, Hoan added.
