Providing details on the year’s new coffee planting results, Le Xuan Canh, Director of the Dien Bien Department of Agriculture and Environment, said that under the assigned plan, Dien Bien was required to plant 5,000ha of new coffee in 2026 to ensure that the province’s total coffee-growing area would reach 20,000ha by 2030.
However, thanks to the strong direction of the Dien Bien Provincial People’s Committee, the responsible involvement of the entire political system, and the proactive efforts of the local people, a total of 42 communes hasachieved or exceeded their assigned planting targets by September 2026, with a total newly planted area of 12,126.35ha.
Notably, Muong Mun Commune planted a new coffee area nearly 300% of its assigned target, spanning nearly 1,200ha against a target of 400ha;, while Chieng Sinh Commune exceeded its target by 215%, with a total newly planted area of 860ha.
Alongside coffee, Dien Bien Province also completed the planting of more than 6,654ha of new macadamia trees in 2026. Compared with the assigned target of 2,500ha, the newly planted area reached 266%, bringing the province’s total macadamia-growing area to more than 19,000ha.
Resolution No. 11 of the 15th Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee’s Executive Board set the targets of 20,000ha of coffee and 40,000ha of macadamia across the province by 2030. Dien Bien’s agriculture is oriented towards green, smart, and sustainable development.
