The programme was jointly held by Vietnam’s National Steering Committee on Disaster Prevention, the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and relevant partners.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep emphasised that Vietnam’s disaster prevention has recorded notable results thanks to the efforts of the government, people and the support of international friends.
He noted that ASEAN cooperation in disaster management is an important part of the socio-cultural pillar of the ASEAN Community.
With this ceremony, Vietnam affirmed its determination to work with other countries and international organisations to promote global awareness of disaster risk mitigation and enhance the response capacity to natural disasters, said Deputy Minister Hiep.
For his part, the Asian Development Bank Country Director for Vietnam Shantanu Chakraborty stated that disaster prevention and mitigation require the participation of all countries and people around the world.
At the anniversary ceremony, the organisers presented the first-place prize for an English-speaking contest on the topic of disaster prevention and climate change adaptation to a group of students from Thoai Ngoc Hau School in An Giang Province.
