The announcement ceremony saw the presence of Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education.
The Resolution agreed to establish Long Khanh city on the basis of having an entire 191km2 of natural area, a population of more than 171,000 and 15 administrative units, including 11 wards and four communes.
The five communes of Long Khanh were upgraded to wards, namely Suoi Tre, Xuan Lap, Xuan Tan, Bao Vinh and Bau Sen.
Addressing the ceremony, Chairman of Long Khanh city People’s Committee Ho Van Nam said that the event is a landmark for the Party Committee, authorities and people of Long Khanh, therefore, the authorities will make every effort to promote the city’s potential to build it into a city of comprehensive and sustainable development.
Nam noted that Long Khanh is located in the key economic region in the South, with many highways and major itineraries, which is expected to become a centre of industry, trade, service and logistics of the Southern key economic region.
Dong Nai province now has two cities, Bien Hoa and Long Khanh.
