At an October 2 working session with the VFA in Hanoi, VFF President Nhan, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, asked the association to collaborate with the VFF to organise conferences and seminars introducing agricultural production models, to honour outstanding farmers and farming businesses and to develop rural areas.
The events yielded a useful evaluation of the state of agriculture and rural areas in Vietnam, as well as several policy proposals on possible improvements, he said.
According to the report given by the VFA, it has administered nearly 300,000 training courses for as many as 12.6 million farmers in recent years, and held more than 54,000 agricultural seminars for farmers nationwide.
Since the beginning of this year, the association has also mobilised VND400 billion (US$18.8 million) to support impoverished famers nationwide.
Delegates at the session urged the Party and State to devise and promulgate guidelines, mechanisms and policies to boost socio-economic development in rural areas, train a modern agricultural workforce and improve the lives of farmers.
They also agreed to work with the VFF on encouraging farmers to observe the laws in their community, as well as settling famers’ complaints to ensure social order in rural areas.
