The event, organised by the city’s Union of Friendship Organisations and the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association in Da Nang, marks the 49th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany (September 23, 1975 - 2024) and the 13th anniversary of the Vietnam-Germany Strategic Partnership (2011-2024).

At the festival, visitors of both countries experienced various cultural exchange activities, including German cuisine, a Vietnam-Germany musical exchange, a contest on drinking German beer, a competition for the best German traditional costume display, and more.

In his opening remarks, Nguyen Huu Lai, Chairman of the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association in Da Nang, noted that Da Nang has recently promoted numerous foreign relations activities and enhanced trade, investment, and cooperation between the city and German partners.

In May 2024, Da Nang signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a friendship and cooperation relationship between the People’s Committee of Da Nang and the government of Thuringen, Germany, in the areas of investment and trade, human resource cooperation, scientific and innovation cooperation, and cultural exchange.

The two-way trade volume between Da Nang and the German market reached nearly 50 million USD in 2023. As of June 2024, Germany had 11 active projects in Da Nang with a total investment of 10.3 million USD. Nearly 19,000 German tourists visited the city in 2023.
