Ho Chi Minh City comes in first at ParaGames 2013

Ho Chi Minh City finished atop the medal tally at ParaGames 2013, the national athletic event for disabled athletes, which closed in Hanoi on July 28 after four days of competition.

The Ho Chi Minh City team won a total of 307 gold, 200 silver and 110 bronze medals. Second place finishers Hanoi ended with 173 gold, 74 silver and 41 bronze medals. The central province of Quang Tri came in third place with 19 gold, 27 silver and 19 bronze. 
The event saw several regional and national records broken. Swimmers Do Thanh Hai and Bui Van Den set a new Asian record in the 50m breaststroke, while 13 athletes set new national weightlifting records. 
Vice president of the Vietnam Paralympic Assosiation Vu The Phiet said that, based on the results of the event, 150 excellent athletes will be selected to compete in the upcoming 7th ASEAN Paragames, to be held in Myanmar in June 2014.
