Agricultural products from Hoa Binh have been exported to numerous international markets, with a total value of over 555 billion VND in 2024. This is a major success rarely achieved by mountainous provinces.
Market access through product quality
Hoa Binh has proactively enhanced trade promotion, market connectivity, brand building, and product quality improvement. In addition to participating in trade fairs inside and outside the province, local authorities have drawn up plans and actively connected with foreign enterprises to support local businesses in expanding their market access.
Thanks to efforts from all levels of government, businesses, and the community, since 2022, many products such as red pomelo (Tan Lac District), Dien pomelo (Yen Thuy District), fresh sugarcane (Tan Lac District), fresh bamboo shoots (Kim Boi District), oranges (Cao Phong District), Son Thuy longan (Kim Boi District), and Song Boi tea (Lac Thuy District) have been successfully exported with high profitability. This has enhanced the competitiveness of local agricultural products, promoted safe production, and efficiently developed production chains that meet VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, increasing income for farmers.
The year 2023 marked a milestone when Hoa Binh Province held a ceremony to export the first 20 tonnes of fresh sugarcane to the US market. The raw materials were sourced from Tan My Commune, Lac Son District.
This event laid the groundwork for businesses to become more aware of the province’s agricultural commodities, explore distribution channels, and expand into new product markets.
In 2024, key agricultural products such as oranges, pomelos, wood, and spices attracted investments from dozens of businesses inside and outside the province for processing and export. Hoa Binh’s agricultural exports were accepted by many markets, including demanding ones such as the United States, EU, Middle East, and India.
Since early 2025, eight export facilities have recorded a total output of over 12,509 tonnes, reaching a value of more than 93 billion VND. Among them, three forestry enterprises exported 12,209 tonnes of products worth nearly 79 billion VND, while five agricultural export facilities contributed 300 tonnes, earning about 14.18 billion VND.
Of note are 66 tonnes of various bamboo shoots exported to the Netherlands, Japan, and the Republic of Korea; 136.7 tonnes of pickled vegetables exported to Japan; 20 tonnes of tea and Bat Bao lotus porridge products exported to the Republic of Korea; 53 tonnes exported to the UK, US, and EU worth over 800 million VND; and 25 tonnes of oranges worth over VND 600 million exported to Malaysia.
By effectively leveraging bilateral and multilateral agreements, including the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), many speciality fruits such as Cao Phong oranges, Cao Phong tangerines, Tan Lac red pomelos, Dien pomelos, and other local specialities like honey, glass noodles, turmeric powder, preserved lemon, and Giao Co Lam herbal tea have reached the UK market via R.Y.B Joint Stock Company (Hoa Binh).
Increasing competitiveness for export
Director of Hoa Binh Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Huy Nhuan shared that the province aims to achieve a core agricultural export turnover of 138 million USD by 2030, focusing on major markets such as the US, EU, UK, China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

To achieve this goal, alongside improving product quality to boost competitiveness, the province has developed production support schemes, effectively utilised resources, strengthened trade promotion, supported planting area code registration, farming areas, packaging and processing facilities, and provided training on import regulations for enterprises. Many agricultural products are now catching up with the competitive environment and penetrating global markets.
HAGIMX Company is building a factory to produce agricultural and vegetable products in the province. Chairman Nguyen Tien Anh revealed that the company exported over 10 million USD of agricultural goods to international markets in 2024, including demanding markets such as the EU and the US. In 2025, the company aims to reach 17 million USD in exports.
In addition to strong agricultural product sales, the company has partnered with localities to build stable linkage chains, product branding, geographical indications, and collective trademarks — transforming common crops into speciality products. As a result, investment has been focused on improving production practices and enhancing competitiveness to bring Hoa Binh’s agricultural products to global markets.
According to Nguyen Hong Yen, Head of the Plant Protection and Cultivation Sub-department of Hoa Binh, along with cassava (the main export), the province’s agriculture sector has also focused on boosting and improving the quality of high-value short-term crops such as vegetables, sugarcane, and aromatic plants for export to new markets including the US, EU, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, and the Middle East.
Thanks to targeted investment, the province exported more than 42,000 tonnes of agricultural and forestry products in 2024, with a total value of about 555 billion VND. Products now present in international markets include cassava, wood, cinnamon, sugarcane, tea, porridge, bamboo shoots, peanuts, pomelos, pickled chilli, and various preserved vegetables.
In 2024, Hoa Binh’s agriculture sector achieved 100% of its planned targets. The GRDP growth rate of the agriculture, forestry, and fishery sectors was estimated at 3.25%, with production value reaching approximately 13.9 trillion VND.
For 2025, the province targets a 4.3% growth rate in agriculture, forestry, and fishery sectors, and a production value of about 14.5 trillion VND. The focus will be on developing high-value, export-oriented crops, establishing raw material zones for forestry, and promoting linkage and product consumption chains, thereby increasing farmers’ income and fostering sustainable and stable local economic development.
