Attending the event was a large number of members of the Vietnamese-origin community from 25 provinces and cities across Cambodia, Vietnamese businesses, Vietnamese students studying in Cambodia, staff of the Embassy and other Vietnamese agencies in Cambodia, representatives of Vietnamese localities bordering Cambodia, as well as Cambodian and international friends. Notable guests included Samdech Men Sam An, Vice President of the Cambodian People’s Party and President of the Cambodia–Viet Nam Friendship Association; Phnom Penh Governor Khuon Sreng; leaders of several Cambodian ministries and agencies; the Ambassador and staff of the Lao Embassy; and representatives of the European Union Delegation to Cambodia.
In the joyful spirit of welcoming the New Year, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Minh Vu reviewed Viet Nam’s outstanding and impressive achievements in economic, social, and diplomatic development in 2025. He stressed that the relationship of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability” between Viet Nam and Cambodia has continued to be strengthened and developed across all fields.
Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu emphasised that although the Vietnamese-origin community and Vietnamese enterprises in Cambodia still face many difficulties, they have always made efforts to contribute positively to Cambodia’s prosperity, organised numerous practical activities to support one another, preserved their cultural identity, and consistently maintained close ties with their homeland. These contributions have helped to further promote the friendship between Viet Nam and Cambodia in all areas.
On the occasion, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu presented 200 gift packages from Party General Secretary To Lam to Vietnamese-origin families in difficult circumstances in Cambodia, and awarded certificates of merit to collectives and individuals with outstanding contributions to community work in 2025.
The “Homeland Spring 2026” programme, featuring traditional calligraphers writing and gifting calligraphy, a Tet photo corner with peach blossoms, apricot trees and a pot for cooking banh chung, cultural performances by Vietnamese-origin pupils, international students, Embassy staff, and artists, along with traditional dishes rich in Vietnamese culinary flavours, left an unforgettable impression on overseas Vietnamese as well as Cambodian and international friends.
Joining the joyful atmosphere welcoming the Lunar New Year 2026, on the evening of February 6 (local time) in New Delhi, the Embassy of Viet Nam in India hosted the “Homeland Spring” programme, with the participation of a large number of Vietnamese nationals who are living, studying, and working in India, as well as Vietnamese monks and nuns pursuing religious studies there.
Addressing the “Homeland Spring Binh Ngo 2026” programme and reviewing key milestones and achievements of the country in 2025, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai emphasised that, in a year marked by profound, complex, and unpredictable developments both globally and regionally, Viet Nam has continued to demonstrate its resilience, adaptability, and standing. Accordingly, Viet Nam’s economy recorded robust growth, with GDP expanding by over 8 per cent to reach 514 billion USD. Trade turnover rose by more than 18 per cent to 920 billion USD, reflecting the strong internal dynamism and adaptability of the Vietnamese economy. Alongside economic gains, social policies also received strong attention, with Viet Nam’s Global Happiness Index ranking rising steadily to 46th out of 143 countries.
Affirming that the Year of 2026 would carry special significance as the first year implementing the resolutions of the 14th National Party Congress, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai noted that Viet Nam is entering a new phase of development with a vision to become a high-income developed country by 2045. He added that 2026 would also see numerous activities marking the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Viet Nam–India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, extending New Year greetings to the community, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai expressed his hope that the Vietnamese community in India would continue to grow, prosper, and succeed; remain united and supportive of one another; strictly observe the local laws; preserve national cultural identity; and always serve as an effective and steadfast bridge in nurturing friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and India.
Within the framework of the “Homeland Spring Binh Ngo 2026” programme, members of the Vietnamese community, Indian friends, and invited guests enjoyed traditional Vietnamese dishes and cultural performances rich in national identity.
