In Picture: Editor-in-Chief Forum promotes press’ role in policy communication

The 2023 Editor-in-Chief Forum, themed “Policy communication - Perspectives from press agencies”, was held in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province on September 29. How to make the press promote its power and truly become the main channel of policy communication was the main theme of the forum.
The forum drew the participation of member of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper Le Quoc Minh, who is also Deputy Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communications and Education and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association; Deputy Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communications and Education Tran Thanh Lam; Deputy Minister of Information and Communications; and leaders of many central and local press, and press management agencies.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam shared, that regarding policy communication, some press agencies still lack creativity, criticism, evaluation, and prediction. The peculiarity of each press agency has not been thoroughly promoted. Many newsrooms have not proactively developed systematic policy communication plans.

The forum’s organising committee listens to the frank and enthusiastic sharing and exchanges of representatives from press agencies, to reach a consensus in proposing several solutions to remove obstacles, in the implementation of policy communication by the press, so that the media is truly an important resource to create great strength and high efficiency in building and implementing policies.

We need to clearly understand the role, importance and methods of the press in disseminating, spreading, and bringing promulgated policies to people from all walks of life, towards helping policies come to life. It is crucial to have great coordination between state management agencies, functional agencies and press agencies, in implementing policy communication, as well as make economic and technological solutions in improving the effectiveness of policy communication at press agencies”.
