In Pictures: Stunning Vung Ang–Bung Expressway ahead of opening

In just one day, the Vung Ang - Bung Expressway, a key arterial route linking Ha Tinh with Quang Tri, will officially open to traffic. Stretching more than 55 kilometres, the route traverses the Deo But mountain pass and winds around the scenic Kim Son Reservoir, creating breathtaking and majestic landscapes along its path.

The expressway starts at National Highway 12C in Ha Tinh’s Ky Hoa Commune and ends in Quang Tri’s Bo Trach District, linking with the Bung–Van Ninh Expressway.

In recent days, hundreds of engineers and workers have been working overtime in scorching heat to meet the August 19 opening deadline for the Vung Ang–Bung Expressway, part of the 2021–2025 North–South Expressway project.

Approach roads and viaducts to the Deo But Tunnel have been nearly completed with barriers, guardrails, road markings, traffic signs and lighting systems installed.

The Deo But Tunnel has also been fitted with lighting and safety systems. Stretching nearly 1 km, it features two tubes: the left 716 m long, the right 840 m, each 15 m wide and 8 m high.

Deo But is the only road tunnel along the over 107 km stretch of the North–South East Expressway passing through Ha Tinh province. The project is managed by Project Management Board 6 (Ministry of Transport, now under the Ministry of Construction).

Deo But Tunnel - the most important section of the Vung Ang–Bung Expressway - stretches nearly 1 km with an investment of over 1 trillion VND. Cutting through the Dong Nang mountain range in Ha Tinh, it features two parallel tubes spaced 45 metre apart. The left tube is 716 metre long, the right tube 840 metre, each 15 metre wide and 8 metre high.

Once operational, the Vung Ang–Bung Expressway will bring significant and multifaceted benefits, cutting travel time between Quang Tri, Ha Tinh, and northern provinces, while greatly facilitating trade, freight transport, and tourism development.
