The VND1 trillion (US$47 million) palace – a key sport and physical training facility in the south of the Red River Delta – comprises a multi-functional gymnasium and a domed swimming pool. It will be the venue for 13 sports of the 7th Vietnam National Games, slated for December, as Nam Dinh has been assigned as the games’ major host.

Construction of the gymnasium began in January 2013 with total investment of VND855 billion (US$40.18 million) from the central budget and finalised in mid-2014. It covers 2.5 hectares in Nam Dinh city’s Loc Vuong commune and has a seating capacity of 4,000 people.

The venue is suitable for table tennis, basketball, handball, badminton, Vovinam, wushu, karate, taekwondo, dancesport and futsal competitions, as well as many other cultural and sporting events.

The domed swimming pool facility started construction in May 2013 at total cost of VND114 billion (US$5.36 million). It has 1,000 seats and meets international standards with its equipment imported from Spain, including two modern pools and a system of hot and cold water to ensure athletes’ health.
