Kien Giang marks 50th anniversary of south liberation, national reunification

Kien Giang Province held a ceremony, on April 25, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (30 April 1975 – 30 April 2025)

The event was attended by Nguyen Tan Dung, former Politburo member and former Prime Minister; General Le Hong Anh, former Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat; and Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Member of the Party Central Committee and Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

At the ceremony, Nguyen Tien Hai, Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee, recalled the proud revolutionary history of the province’s Party Committee, military, and people during the resistance wars, as well as the province’s achievements in economic, cultural, and social development, and national defence and security over the past 50 years since liberation.

Fifty years after liberation, Kiên Giang has emerged as one of the provinces with the most robust economies in the Mekong Delta region. In 2024, the province's per capita GRDP exceeded 80 million VND.

On this occasion, the province also announced the successful completion of the “Joint Effort to Eliminate Makeshift and Dilapidated Houses Nationwide by 2025” campaign, launched by the Prime Minister.

Kiên Giang Province also honoured 10 organisations and collectives for their outstanding contributions to the campaign to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing in the area.
