Kien Giang welcomes over 470,000 tourists during Lunar New Year

During the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday in 2025, Kien Giang Province welcomed over 470,000 visitors, including 76,000 international tourists, generating more than 1.8 trillion VND in revenue. In 2024, the province attracted 9.8 million visitors, including 978,800 international tourists, with total tourism revenue exceeding 25.1 trillion VND.

At a tourism review conference on February 6, Bui Quoc Thai, Director of Kien Giang’s Department of Tourism, highlighted the province’s strong tourism growth in 2024. Tourist arrivals increased 15.6% year-over-year, surpassing the annual target by 7.2%, while revenue grew 43.8%, exceeding the goal by 25.7%. Currently, Kien Giang has 317 tourism projects covering nearly 10,000 hectares, with Phu Quoc alone hosting 274 projects.

The province has 977 accommodation establishments with 34,132 rooms, including 18 three-star hotels and 28 four- and five-star hotels with 12,788 rooms. In 2024, Kien Giang strengthened domestic and international tourism promotion efforts, participating in trade missions to Japan, Thailand, and Cambodia.

For 2025, the province aims to welcome 10.65 million visitors, including 1.1 million international tourists, and generate 28 trillion VND in revenue. Key priorities include workforce training, tourism product development, and enhanced public-private cooperation.

Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People’s Committee Le Trung Ho praised the sector’s achievements and emphasised the strategic importance of Phu Quoc, which will host APEC 2027. He urged accelerated investment in eco-tourism, island tourism, and tourism infrastructure to elevate Kien Giang’s position in Vietnam and internationally.
