Localities respond to International Children’s Day

Nhan Dan – A number of activities to care for children, particularly those living in difficult circumstances, are taking place across the country to mark International Children’s Day (June 1).

Around VND400 million (US$19,200) was raised on May 29 at the launching of the ‘Action Month for Children’ in northern Thai Binh province. At the event, the provincial People’s Committee presented gifts of VND500,000 each to 40 poor children in the locality to encourage them to overcome their difficulties.

Outstanding collectives and individuals that made significant contributions to promoting child care, education and protection in the province were also honoured at the event.

A delegation from the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) recently visited and presented gifts to children undergoing treatment at the Thuy An Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped Children in Ba Vi district, Hanoi.

Speaking at the centre, MOLISA Minister Pham Thi Hai Chuyen praised the efforts the centre’s doctors and officers have made to care for and rehabilitate children in the region living with disabilities and help them integrate into the community.

In response to International Children’s Day, the Quang Nam provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs offered free checks-up and medical treatment for over 100 disadvantaged children in the Dak Pring and Dak Pre communes of Nam Giang district. More than 50 other children were also awarded VND300,000 each for achieving outstanding academic results despite their difficult living conditions.

A get-together and ceremony to present gifts was also held for 245 ethnic Ca Tu children in Hoa Vang district, Da Nang city to mark the occasion.
