Party Central Committee member, Secretary of Thua Thien - Hue provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Council, Nguyen Ngoc Thien, attended the ceremony.
The newly established town has an area of 2,966 hectares and a population of 11,988.
Last year the chairman of the Thua Thien - Hue provincial People's Committee issued Decision No.1514/QĐ-UBND on August 19, 2010 to recognise the former Phu Da commune as a fifth class town.
Phu Da was an important revolutionary base in the two resistance wars against France and the US. The Party Committee and residents of Phu Da gained significant achievements over the past 36 years and have been awarded many noble Orders and Certificates of Merit.
