Commending the achievements of Samsung Viet Nam in general, and the Samsung Viet Nam Research and Development Centre in particular, in training high-quality technological human resources, research and development, technology transfer and promoting the innovation ecosystem, the Head of the PCC’s Commission for Policies and Strategies proposed that Samsung share its practical experience in research and development, innovation, human resource development and connectivity with Viet Nam’s technology ecosystem.
He also encouraged the company to discuss difficulties and obstacles, as well as proposals and recommendations aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of the Samsung Research and Development (R&D) Centre and further strengthening cooperation between Samsung and Viet Nam in the coming period.
Expressing appreciation for the remarks made by the Head of the PCC’s Commission for Policies and Strategies regarding Samsung Viet Nam’s achievements, Na Ki Hong stated that the Samsung R&D Centre, inaugurated in December 2022 to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea, was established with a total investment of 220 million USD and currently employs around 2,500 Vietnamese engineers.
The centre has expanded beyond R&D for mobile phones to include laptop computers and 4G/5G telecommunications network equipment. At present, it is implementing cooperation programmes with Viet Nam’s leading universities and specialised upper secondary schools in Ha Noi, while also offering numerous scholarships to outstanding pupils and students.
Expressing confidence in the positive policies of the Party and the Vietnamese State in the field of science and technology, the General Director of Samsung Viet Nam affirmed the company’s commitment to continue improving its technological competitiveness, promoting the participation of Vietnamese enterprises in the supply chain, and developing high-quality technological human resources.
At the working session, representatives from several Vietnamese ministries and sectors provided information on the Party’s and State’s policies, particularly orientations related to the development of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation. They also shared information on the legal framework and the shift in investment priorities in Viet Nam, from manufacturing-focused FDI to innovation-driven FDI, while encouraging the establishment of research and development centres.
The two sides discussed a number of issues, including fostering innovative human capital, improving the quality of the workforce for the production of high-tech products, and strengthening cooperation with Vietnamese enterprises.
Acknowledging the frank, substantive and effective exchanges between the delegation and Samsung Viet Nam’s leadership, Politburo member Nguyen Thanh Nghi proposed that Samsung continue developing a comprehensive ecosystem, expand research into core and leading-edge technologies, and further enhance the role and operational efficiency of the R&D Centre.
He also called for stronger cooperation with Vietnamese universities, research institutes and technology enterprises. In addition, Samsung was encouraged to support Vietnamese businesses in participating more deeply in Samsung’s supply chain and technology ecosystem, while coordinating the training of high-quality Vietnamese engineers and experts in artificial intelligence and semiconductor technology in the future.
