Promoting Vietnamese cultural values and strengthening bonds with the overseas community in Belgium

Recently, books written about the beloved President Ho Chi Minh were solemnly presented by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports to the General Union of Vietnamese in Belgium (UGVB) and the Vietnamese Ao Dai Heritage Club in Belgium.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports donated a collection of books on President Ho Chi Minh, ranging from “Uncle Ho’s Words for the Young Generation” and “Uncle Ho and Children” to volumes imbued with his ideology, ethics, and style, along with elegant non quai thao — traditional flat palm-leaf hats that embody the cultural essence of northern Viet Nam.

This meaningful activity took place during the working visit to Belgium by a delegation from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, led by its Deputy Director Do Phuoc Trung.

Beyond fostering cultural exchange and connectivity, the visit reflected the deep affection and sense of responsibility of the Party and state, and especially the Ho Chi Minh City authorities, towards the Vietnamese community living, studying, and working abroad.

At a working session with the UGVB, Do Phuoc Trung briefed overseas Vietnamese on key achievements in Ho Chi Minh City’s socio-economic development. Following the merger of Binh Duong Province and Ba Ria–Vung Tau Province and the restructuring and consolidation of the two-tier local government model, Ho Chi Minh City has emerged as a dynamic megacity, serving as the country’s economic engine and leading nationwide in growth.

Speaking at the event, Huynh Cong My, President of the UGVB, expressed his appreciation and high regard for the meaningful gesture by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports delegation.

According to Huynh Cong My, the valuable books and traditional cultural items such as non quai thao are not only gifts of profound spiritual significance, but also help to nurture love for the homeland and country, enabling Vietnamese associations in Belgium to preserve and promote their national cultural identity.

The UGVB President expressed his hope that, in the time ahead, the close relationship between the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports and the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Belgium would be sustained and further strengthened, providing more effective support for the community’s cultural activities.

This donation of cultural products once again underscores the consistent policy of the Party and state in caring for the spiritual life of overseas Vietnamese, recognising them as an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation who continue to accompany and contribute to the development of their homeland.
