In his opening address, Russian Ambassador to Viet Nam Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich underscored the significance of the victory of the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War 80 years ago.
Ambassador Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich stated that the Great Patriotic War, as it is known in the former Soviet Union and the current Russian Federation, was the bloodiest and most devastating war in human history. The outcome of the war had epochal significance for many nations and peoples in the world. It completely changed the political situation on the planet and laid the foundations for the contemporary world order.
To achieve the victory, the Soviet Union had to make extraordinary efforts and pay an unparalleled price: immense material losses, the destruction of many cities and villages, and the loss of life for over 27 million Soviet citizens.
“The lessons of the Great Patriotic War affirm that global peace and comprehensive development can only be ensured by respecting the voices of all nations and upholding the right of each country to pursue an independent policy and sovereign based on traditional values,” Ambassador Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich emphasised.
At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party, state, and people of Viet Nam, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha extended heartfelt congratulations and deep gratitude to the people of the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation today on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Highlighting the monumental significance of the victory, a glorious milestone in human history, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that May 9, 1945, entered the history with the great victory of the Soviet people and peace-loving forces around the world, of conscience and dignity. The victory shattered the fascist system, weakened colonial empires, and opened a new chapter for oppressed peoples striving for independence, freedom, and happiness.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha stressed that the spirit of the era, rooted in the Great Patriotic Victory, strongly inspired the Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and President Ho Chi Minh, towards triumph in the August Revolution in 1945, which gave birth to the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam on September 2, 1945.
Paying tribute to the great sacrifices of Red Army soldiers and the Soviet people, Viet Nam is also proud of its outstanding sons who fought bravely and sacrificed heroically in the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet people during the fiercest days of the winter of 1941.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, the noble international spirit stands as a shining and eternal symbol of the steadfast and loyal friendship between the Vietnamese and Russian peoples, a relationship forged through the trials of history and continuously nurtured in today's time of peace. As a nation that has endured countless struggles against foreign invaders, with profound sacrifices and suffering, Viet Nam deeply understands the value of peace, independence, and freedom.
The deputy prime minister expressed confidence that, with a strong political foundation, deep mutual trust, loyal friendship, and the shared vision and determination of the leaders and peoples of both countries, Viet Nam and the Russian Federation will continue to accompany each other through the challenges of the new era. The two countries will write new chapters in their bilateral relations and move forward on the path to prosperous development, while contributing more significantly to peace, friendship, and cooperation in the region and the globe.
