The event attracted the participation of numerous scientists and researchers in the fields of agriculture and environmental studies.

The workshop proposed a range of solutions aimed at improving the quality of the scientific journal, with the goal of establishing it as a reputable academic forum in Viet Nam while gradually integrating into the international scientific community.

In his opening remarks, Dr Dao Xuan Hung, Editor-in-Chief of the Agriculture and Environment Magazine, stressed that the project on Developing the English-language Agriculture and Environment Journal to International Standards with a view to Scopus Indexing” represents an important step towards enhancing the quality of scientific publishing, expanding international integration, gradually strengthening the journal’s standing within the scientific community, and promoting the reputation of Viet Nam’s agriculture and environment sector.

He also emphasised that the successful implementation of the project would require careful preparation, a clear roadmap, adequate resources, and, above all, the support and collaboration of the Editorial Board, scientists, research institutes, universities and professional associations both at home and abroad.

In the digital era, characterised by an explosion of global data, scientific journals have assumed a unique mission, serving as rigorous gatekeepers for research with the highest practical value.

As part of its international integration strategy, the journal has maintained an English-language scientific publication, laying an initial foundation for meeting international standards and pursuing inclusion in the Scopus database during the 2029–2031 period. This ambition is expected to reinforce its role as a trusted scientific forum for the sector while making meaningful contributions to the development of agriculture, environmental protection, science and technology, and innovation in the country’s new era.

Dr Phung Duc Tien, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment and Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Agriculture and Environment Magazine, noted that amid increasingly deep regional integration and rapid advances in science and technology, the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science and technology development and innovation has provided strong support for the agriculture and environment sector in general and for the magazine in particular.

Dr Tien said that scientific journals in the sector must strive to develop along specialised and discipline-focused lines, with strong academic credibility and the capacity to connect domestic and international knowledge networks. Every article and scientific feature, he noted, should demonstrate quality, originality, practical value and meaningful contributions to the sector.

He added that the workshop would help identify solutions to refine the development project for the English-language Agriculture and Environment Journal in line with international standards and its aspiration for Scopus indexing, thereby enhancing the reputation of Viet Nam’s agriculture and environment sector.

The Editorial Board has proposed a number of fields and disciplines for the English-language Journal to pursue Scopus indexing, including agriculture, forestry, fisheries and agricultural systems; environment, natural resources and climate change; circular economy, bioeconomy and emissions reduction; biotechnology, food technology and post-harvest technologies; green technology, environment and energy; agricultural economics, policy and governance; and digital transformation and geospatial technologies.

Contributing to discussions on the journal’s development project, experts from research institutes and universities agreed that the initiative presents an important opportunity for the publication to strive for international indexing while enhancing the global profile of Viet Nam’s agriculture and environment sector.

During the workshop, experts also put forward a range of recommendations concerning the roadmap towards Scopus indexing, publication processes and digital transformation, the enhancement of academic quality, internationalisation efforts, as well as human resources and financial development.

In his concluding remarks, Dr Phung Duc Tien acknowledged the strong sense of responsibility and valuable contributions made by members of the Editorial Board, experts and scientists. He urged the Agriculture and Environment Magazine to fully incorporate the recommendations received and conduct a comprehensive review to ensure that the project is refined in a substantive and practical manner.

On this occasion, the Agriculture and Environment Magazine also launched the new interface of its “Electronic Journal of Agriculture and Environment Science” portal at tapchikhoahoc.nnmt.net.vn.

Within the international scientific publishing ecosystem, Scopus is regarded as one of the most prestigious indexing systems, encompassing stringent standards relating to academic quality, internationalisation, research ethics and the scientific impact of published works.

A journal can only gain entry into such a reputable indexing system when the articles it publishes generate new knowledge, reach the international scientific community and attract the attention of scholars around the world.
