The road will run 69 kilometres from an intersection with National Highway 32 in Mu Cang Chai District to Van Yen District in Yen Bai Province, at a total cost of 1,900 billion VND (83 million USD).

The first phase of the project will cover 30 kilometres in Mu Cang Chai District while the remaining 39 kilometres will be implemented in 2022. The entire project is scheduled for completion in 35 months.

Upon completion, the distance between Mu Cang Chai District and Yen Bai City will be shortened, opening new opportunities for economic development and poverty reduction in the remote region.

Currently the centre of Mu Cang Chai District is only accessible by National Highway 32.
