Joyful Mid-Autumn celebrations delight children nationwide

Nhan Dan – An array of entertainment activities have been held across the country to bring joy to children on the occasion of the Mid-autumn festival.

A programme entitled ‘Moon Festival – Lighting up Vietnamese Children’s Dreams’ took place in Can Tho city on September 7 for children living in difficult circumstances in the Mekong River Delta.

At the event, 450 scholarships, each worth from VND 1 million to VND 3 million, and 3,000 gifts were presented to the children.

The participants also joined folk games and a lantern processions.

Speaking at the event, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan expressed her delight to join the celebration with children, stressing that the Party, State, families and community always create the most favourable conditions for children.

She praised the participants’ performance in studying, and expressed her hope that they would make further efforts to follow their dreams.

More than 700 children whose parents are workers at Hiep Phuoc industrial park in Ho Chi Minh City (HMC) also enjoyed a mid-autumn fest held yesterday morning by the Fund for supporting the city’s workers.

Over 500 students at Nguyen Dinh Chieu school for disadvantaged children were free to take part in folk games and enjoy lion dances at the same event held in HCMC Children’s House.

Meanwhile, more than 3,000 students from 31 primary and secondary schools in Phan Thiet city gathered at Nguyen Tat Thanh square to join a mid-autumn lantern festival.

Children from each school contributed to the procession a big lantern and nearly 100 smaller ones, decorated with characters from Vietnamese fairy tales as well as Vietnamese naval ships.

The participants, accompanied with the drum beats of a bustling lion dance, toured around major streets in the city.

Also on the occasion, 100 children whose parents are coast guards, fisheries surveillance officers and fishermen in Quang Ngai province, were awarded scholarships worth VND 500,000 each.

Other cultural activities to delight children on the occasion also took place in Da Nang city, Bac Ninh, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, and Thua Thien – Hue provinces, among others.
