Vietinbank hands over homes to poor people in Central Highlands

Nhan Dan Online - The Vietnam Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank) said it has handed over 414 homes for poor people in Kon Tum, Gia Lai and Dak Lak provinces in the Central Highlands.

The lender also offered ambulances and cows for these provinces as part of its welfare programme.

Kon Tum province received 100 homes and 100 cows and is expected to receive another VND26 billion (US$1.2 million) from Vietinbank to construct more homes and buy more cows later in the year.

In Gia Lai province, Vietinbank presented 200 homes and one ambulance, worth a total of more than VND11.2 billion (US$526,400).

So far Vietinbank has provided Gia Lai with nearly VND120 billion (US$5.64 million) to help the province build 500 homes, two kindergartens and two community houses, and to buy six ambulances and other health equipment.

In Dak Lak province, poor people received support from Vietinbank worth over VND5.5 billion (US$258,500).

Vietinbank Chairman Nguyen Van Thang said the bank continued to earmark funds for social welfare activities, although it was facing many difficulties.

He said he was pleased when homes and other facilities were donated and happy to help improve the lives of poor people in these provinces.
